Award of two new prospecting permits

Two hydrocarbon prospecting permits called “Remada” and “Zaafrane” Permits were awarded, yesterday to the Cyprus company “Medex Petroleum Tunisia” (former M.P Zarat Ltd, subsidiary of Medex Petroleum Ltd) and to ETAP (Entreprise Tunisienne d’Activités Pétrolières), the national oil and gas company.

A total investment valued at USD 13 million i.e approximately 16.9 million TD is allocated to these permits which are located in the Kebili governorate and respectively covering an area of 3.796 m2 (Remada) and 5.168m2 (Zaafrane) each.

The preliminary work programme valid for 5 years covers the realization of a 300 km seismic campaign and the drilling of an exploration well for each permit.

Contracts regarding the award of these two permits were signed by Mr Afif Chelbi, Minister of Industry, Energy and Small and Medium Enterprises and Mr Khaled Becheikh, CEO of ETAP who represent the Tunisian state, and Mr Tarek Mekada, President of Medex Petroleum Ltd.

The signing ceremony took place in presence of Mr Abdelaziz Rassaa, Secretary of State in charge of renewable energies and agribusiness.
